Principles: A typical application of a PTC thermistor used in refrigerators. PTC
starter directly connects with the motor sub-winding (starting winding) in series
and then connects with the major winding in motor in parallel. After adding voltage
to the windings of the motor, the phase-split effect will cause phase differential
between the two windings so as to engender the ellipse rotary magnetic
field resulting in the start of the torque to drive the motor operation normally.
Because the self-heating of PTC, the body temperature sharply increases. When
the body temperature exceeds the courier point of PTC, the resistance sharply increases
and the auxiliary coil will be switch-off. At the same time, the motor complete
starting and run with single-phase.
Figure3 show a typical application of PTC thermistor in series with a load. The switch
function of PTC thermistor is consists in limiting the current flowing through
the load at high operating voltages after the themistor heated
